Another follow-up

I had another follow-up appointment last week and everything is good. This was not a scan (that will be in November). He told me that I will continue with this scan and follow-up schedule for the next 5 years. Wait. Now, when I started this, it was 2 years. Now its five? But you told me that I had to wait 2 years to start having kids. I assumed it was because I had a scan every 6 months and I can't be pregnant when I have a scan. And now you say 5 years? Yep five years. The catch (or anti-catch) is that after 2 years (when the chance of the cancer coming back is the highest) we can start trying. And if we are trying when it comes time for a scan, they do a pregnancy test and if I am pregnant, no scan. If not, scan's a go. So, there you go. Now mom, this does not mean that I will be getting pregnant ASAP. Sorry. But at least I know that it is up to me. I can do it, or not do it (hehe) to my hearts desire. That makes me feel good.

Also my thyroid is fine. The meds are working great, and my dosage did not change. Yay for levothyroxin.

  1. glad the appointment went well. I've never heard about that 2 yr thing, being the highest chance of it coming back- great. Why 2 years? give me the info on that. babies- if everything is clear after my next scan- in march- then my doc said I can try to get pregnant, as long as I get pregnant in a 3 month span- because 9 months later I have to get another scan. Glad your thyroid is doing good. I'm glad you got that medicine, take care.

  4. Lena, I read your post on Mormon Child Bride. Go ahead and take the leap; though I recommend that you and your husband decide what payment you can afford, not the bank. There is so much information available on the Internet about homes that you will be able to do some research regarding neighborhoods and home prices. We have bought three homes and I have been scared every time, but I promise that in a few years the payment seems like a bargain compared to the rents and other houses out there. The only thing I would warn you about is not to buy too far out of town. It's tempting to get "more for your money" but a long commute is expensive and you will be better off putting that money into the mortgage. Also, when prices drop, the houses closer in hold their value better. And make sure that it is something that you are willing to clean, heat, cool, and pay taxes on--that is why I don't have a McMansion.

I had breast cancer 4 years ago and I have low thyroid, so I can relate. Hang in there. A friend of mine had non-Hodgkins lymphoma at age 21. She had an 18-month-old then. He's now a senior in college and she had eight more kids. Bless you!
